Around the Center

The Opening Ceremony initiates the creation of the Peace Mandala through traditional Tibetan Buddhist prayers, chants, and ritual gestures. These practices are offered to purify the space, awaken compassionate intention, and invoke blessings for the mandala’s creation. From a Buddhist perspective, the mandala becomes a sacred field—an expression of enlightened mind—where wisdom and compassion are made visible through form.
The Significance of the Peace Mandala
In Tibetan Buddhism, a sand mandala represents the impermanent nature of all phenomena and the interdependent web of existence. Crafted grain by grain with mindfulness and devotion, the Peace Mandala embodies the path of patience, presence, and non-attachment.
At this moment in time, the Peace Mandala is offered as a collective prayer for harmony, healing, and the alleviation of suffering. As it is created, observed, and ultimately dissolved, the mandala reminds us that true peace does not arise from holding on, but from awareness, compassion, and the willingness to offer all things back to the benefit of all beings.

This 90-minute group healing is a traditional Vajrasattva empowerment and purification ritual offered by Tibetan Buddhist monks of the Gaden Shartse Cultural Foundation.
The Vajrasattva practice is one of the most widely revered purification ceremonies in Tibetan Buddhism. Through chanting, mantra recitation, mudras, visualization, and ritual instruments, the monks invoke Vajrasattva — the Buddha of Purification — to support the clearing of obstacles, emotional burdens, and karmic imprints.
During the ritual, participants are guided into a contemplative state while the monks perform sacred prayers and visualizations. The practice culminates in the Golden Nectar Blessing, a symbolic transmission in which luminous nectar is visualized flowing through the body and mind, cleansing negativity and restoring clarity, balance, and vitality.
This offering is gentle yet powerful, supporting:
-
emotional and energetic purification
-
inner peace and renewal
-
clarity of mind and heart
-
a sense of spiritual protection and blessing
No prior experience with meditation or Buddhist practice is required. Participants may sit comfortably and receive the ritual in silence and presence.

The Closing Ceremony marks the sacred dissolution of the Peace Mandala, a profound teaching in Tibetan Buddhism on impermanence (anicca), non-attachment, and compassionate release. Through prayer, chanting, and ritual, the mandala—created grain by grain with mindfulness and devotion—is gently dismantled, honoring the truth that all forms arise, transform, and return.
This act is an offering rather than an ending. The prayers, intentions, and blessings held within the mandala are consciously released for the benefit of all beings. In a traditional gesture of generosity, the sand will be carried and offered to the waters of Sedona, allowing the mandala’s blessings to flow outward—into the land, the waters, and the wider web of life.
The Closing Ceremony invites reflection on letting go, deep trust in the natural rhythms of existence, and the recognition that true peace is found not in permanence, but in awakened awareness and compassionate action.
