Sand Mandala Creation
Viewing the creation of the mandala (sand painting) is free and open to the public each day. The Tibetan monks are creating the Maitreya Sand Mandala (the Buddha of Love) at Sedonya, from March 7th to the 17th. Visitors may come to watch the sand mandala take form, to learn more about Tibetan art, or to just sit and meditate!

Introduction to Mindfulness Meditations on Patience and Compassion

Patience is like armor, once one has accomplished this virtue no harm can come to one. Every conflict or problem is an opportunity to develop the attribute of patience and compassion, as they build on one another.

Liberation from self: The Blessing Empowerment of Green Tara
1:30 pm to 3 pm
In this intimate, peaceful space, the monks of Gaden Shartse monastery will engage participants in Green Tara Empowerment. Green Tara is a beautiful female embodiment of compassion and right action — appropriate for male and female alike.
During the Empowerment, each participant’s three doors (body, speech, and mind) are purified of negativities and blessed individually..

Sand Mandala Closing Ceremony
9:00 am to 10:30 am
An Unforgettable Experience!
After spending countless hours laying millions of grains of sand into an intricate mandala, the monks will destroy it, sweeping the grains together in a sacred ceremony.
After the dissolution, the blessed sand will be distributed among the attendees.
The remaining sand will be poured into the natural body of water so the blessings will be carried with the flowing water.

EMPOWERMENT: Buddha of Purification (Vajravidarin)
6:00 pm to 7:30 pm
The practice of the Vajrasattva deity purifies all negative actions committed by our body, through our speech, and in our minds. All that has been contaminated through our own negativities will be cleansed, and we will be able to begin afresh.

MUSIC RITUAL: FAREWELL EVENT Twenty-One Tara Puja Ritual (chanting, bells & music) & Q&A
5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
Join us as the Tibetan Monks perform a Twenty-One Tara Puja Ritual featuring: Powerful chanting, Tibetan bells & music, followed by a Question & Answer from the Monks.
Through this ritual we will invoke the 21 Taras for blessings to remove all obstacles, purify negative conditions & bring success to all activities of your life.
This will be the last time to see the monks before they head off to their next stop on the tour.

Special Event: Refuge Ceremony: Living Buddha’s Vows
6:00 pm to 7:30pm
The refuge vow marks the decision to commit oneself wholeheartedly to the Buddhist path and to further one's practice and training. It is the formal commitment to being a Buddhist, following the example of the Buddha Shakyamuni, his teachings (the Dharma), and joining the community (Sangha) of fellow practitioners.
At the ceremony you will receive khata scarf as a token of honoring your vows. You are allowed to take photos while receiving your khata from the Geshe.
